Cheers for the input.... I was looking for the 10-20 club. But on my phone with tapatalk, sometimes finding specific corners of this place can be difficult.

hey jsherman and Pentaxor

We have a prime gap between the FA 50 1.7 and the Tamron 90 2.8 macro, and the Tamron 90 has become Tess' macro lens, so was thinking the Sigma 70 to both be my macro and fill the prime gap.

Tell me I'm looking in the right place.

Even though I'm a Pentaxian from front to back, my most used lens is the Sigma 17-70 (old version) which performs flawlessly.

I'll agree that it's a fine lens. When I bought my K10D body only, it was the first autofocus lens I bought and it is still my primary lens.

I agree you don't need a polarizer with this lens. It naturally gives a polarized effect.

I agree with this statement 100%. The first day I had it I took a number of shots of landscapes and has the bluest adjust I've ever shot.

Taking the advice of thread participants..
My latest acquisition... the Sigma 70 macro 2.8. It's a nice size, it's fast , I've been out with it for one day with terrible light

It's a nice portrait length..

Sharp as you could want, this is a hand held macro, I can't wait to get it on a tripod and make it really shine.

A bit long for a walk around lens... but still functional.

Not so long that you need a tripod, but it's getting there. More shots ruined by hand shake than with say a 35mm lens.

Congrats! I think the Sigma 70 is a real gem. It is a razor sharp macro and also doubles as a nice portrait lens. Some portrait shots may require a little softening because it captures all of the flaws.
Compared to my first Sigma 105, my Sigma 70 is noticeably sharper, and the working distance is not that much shorter. At $499 NIB, the Sigma 70 offers a big bang for the buck. Enjoy and definitely take some macro shots with a tripod.

Nice shots Norm. How close were you? Did you use a Better Beamer?
