A freckled hummingbird.

Pentax K5IIs, Sigma 300mm f2.8 EX APO DG, Sigma 2.0x EX APO DG Tele Converter and Sigma 1.4x EX APO DG Tele Converter.

A bit grainy, I had to bump the ISO quite a bit to compensate for the lens stack up.

Excellent--especially considering the "lens stack up".

I tried this lens on a trip to Puerto Rico last year and ultimately decided that I preferred the range and convenience of the 18-200.

Just a simple shot of orchids

Pentax K-1 - Sigma 180mm f/3.5 APO EX @ f/11 ISO 100 1/200th - 2 Godox AD 360 flash units used.

And here is a quick and dirty diagram of how I did it:

The lighting ratio appears to be 1:2 but the red/blue filters I used to create the background ate up a ton of light - the Ratio is probably closer to 1:6. I use grids/honeycombs a lot, I'm a big fan of the amount of control they offer. I used the natural fall off from the grid on the background light to create the gradient on the background. I'm frequently disappointed manufacturers consider them "optional" accessories with light modifiers these days, for a lot of my work I consider them to be Essential.

The Proof is in the Pudding

This is a photo I took this morning using a K-50 and my Sigma APO DG 70-300mm Macro lens. The first is straight out of the camera, as they say. The second is after my PP and a slight bit of cropping and the third is a very severe crop. I'm amazed at the sharpness this lens produces, even with such severe cropping. I think this is one of the best bargains in the photography world for those looking for a long lens that will also shoot 1:2 macro shots.... and don't want to spend more than $100.00!

You can go back and edit the post and change the image. Usually you get about a year after making a post to edit it.

Go ahead.

Make your day.
