Angel Bay, with sigma 18-125mm (not pentax F 28-80mm) at 18mm. See my seal pup pics in the tamron adaptall and 300mm lens club threads (taken from the same spot the people are standing in the pic).

Great series Norm... A bit nostalgic for me as the summer slips away as I was unable to get out much with the fam. We usually go at least one weekend to cabins/lodges by lakes in Upstate NY... Not this year (albeit we went to Ithaca, and the Berkshires where family resides - not the same "outdoor" feel though).

I got in two trips this year. One with my family, daughter and grand daughters, one with my old canoeing buddies from the last 20 years. I usually get 2-4 client trips, bu with the border closed, no clients this year. And when we finally did get a call, the park was so full of Canadians who had to stay home, we couldn't get permits for the trip.

Sigma 105mm Negative Scans

This is a bit different from the usual post. I have been using my Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro lens to scan negatives. Since the birth of my son on 8/10 I have been shooting him almost exclusively with my film cameras, which are 2 Minolta 35mm, a recently acquired Super Program (thanks MightlyMike), and my Pentax 67 and 67ii). These shots are from the Minoltas. A mixture of TRI-X 400, and T-MAX P3200. All shot at box speed and processed normally by me using the newish CineStill DF86 monobath developer. I first used my phone as a backlight, but I just got a cheap LED panel which is much better. I used NegaDoctor in DarkTable for the conversion. It is very quick and easy.

The Sigma does a fantastic job and gives a god working distance so I am not hunched over too much when working. The Tri-x (less grainy shots) were f/8 and whatever shutter the meter suggested....so a fairly slow shutter. The P3200 negatives were all f/8. 1/125 and with the new backlight.

Let me know what you think.

Scans look good. can I ask what aperture and speed do you run the Sigma? Hand-held?

I used a tripod. I shot everything at f/8. The first batch was auto-focused in aperture priority, the P3200 was manually focused in live view using focus assist (I think this method is better). I used 1/125th for my shutter.

I just saw your webpage. While I've never been north of the border for a summer vacation, I'll keep this in mind if we ever decide to head up there in warm weather; my wife has a cousin in Toronto who we've been meaning to visit.
