I am hoping the Sigma Specialists can tell me what lens I just bought as part of an auction lot. Whilst I know the lens cap may be misleading I do believe it to be accurate and this is a Sigma lens; but which one?

Looks like it is F/2.8. (If you can figure out the focal length of what I believe is a Fujica F/3.5 lens on the right that would be helpful. I'm too impatient to wait for it all to arrive).

Thanks. (Image from thesaleroom.com)
My guess would be the Vivitar Series 1 35-85mm f/2.8, which can be seen here: The Vivitar Series 1 35-85 mm f/ 2.8 Lens. Specs. MTF Charts. User Reviews.

I've seen some nice images from it and it looks like a bit of a beast, but it gets quite poor reviews here:

Vivitar Series 1 35-85mm F2.8 Lens Reviews - Vivitar Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

If it really is a Sigma then I think it's this one, which gets very poor reviews: https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/sigma-xq-39-80mm-f35.html

I recently saw an old magazine ad for it, they marketed it basically as the only lens you'll ever need, a bit of a stretch for a 39-80mm f/3.5. A very early example of the constant max aperture standard zoom.

Thank you Jonathan Mac.

I think you may be correct that it is the Sigma XQ 39-80 F/3.5. I mistook F/3.5 for F/2.8 in the image but I can maybe make out mini zoom in green letters.

As you say, it seems to have a bad rap but I'll give it a go of course.

The 'only lens you'll ever need' eh

Okay, I was wrong.

The green letters do not say mini zoom. The second word is definitely Focus and the first looks like it says Pro.

Also, I noted that there are five small bands on the focus ring and the Sigma XQ only has four.

I know I should just wait but I think it would be fun if someone nails it in advance.

With help from the Adapted Lens contributors on DP Review I now know the lens is:

Sigma PANTEL 135mm F2.8 Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

So I was right it is an F/2.8 and wrong it was a zoom. Seems like it reviews well.

Neat!

What are your thoughts of it? It'll be my second budget 135mm and I'll compare the two but I would certainly like to hear your thoughts.

Have you tried the F/64 yet?

I went over to the castle after shopping to take some pics with a vivitar 250mm and then wished for a wide angle when I realised the rainbows were framing the castle. So I scurried home to get one, then ran around Benarth Hill in the mud and rain... worth it.
Sigma Miniwide II, f8. Just a quick jpg out of faststone.

Update I like this one a little better.

I find it to be an underrated lens, nice sharpness and color. Read my review in the lens review section. I have shot a few pics at f/64, it's mainly advertising than practical photography. For the going price of the lens, it's a bargain.

Beautiful = love this lens!!! Mine is for EOS, I can only use it on an old 6.3MP body, but it still shines!
