The only thing that made me upgrade to the ED version was Quick Shift. I was never dissatisfied with the L version I had, but boy did I ever miss QS!
Hi Albert - yes the bokeh is a bit busy in that shot, but the lens does better with closer subjects such as flowers, etc. I'm not a long-zoom shooter, and the lens doesn't get a lot of use. It's handy to bring along on vacation, as I did recently. QS is nice to have, but it's not a concern for me given the limited use of the lens.
