Cute squirrel and nicely done.....but man, I find the background unpleasant. Is that typical for the 50-200?

I wouldn't consider the 50-200 to be a bokeh machine. Putting some distance between the subject and the b/g seems to help. In the case of the squirrel shots, with bare branches & sky in the background, I'm not sure how much better the 55-300 would render it. With nice lighting and colors, you might get something like this (K10D + DAL 50-200):

Looks nice! There's still spring skiing to be done but I'm looking forward to getting back on the bike too. Hopefully our lower trails will be opening soon too.
