Thanks Freddy,
I use Adobe Lightroom for my PP on RAW files, and it has some nice features for Black and white conversion, however it isn't as powerful as Photoshop or maybe Silver Efex Pro (haven't try any of 'em), but it's fine for me so far.
There's several Black and white presets in LR5 and Silver Efex pro, you can use either of them.

If you want to get B&W shots out of the Camera, I found that K-30 (and probably other Pentax DSLRs) has some configs for B&W photos, specially the color filters which work somehow like color filters in front of lens in film photography. I used them when I wanted to get a black and white shot out of the camera, and worked fine.

There's plenty of very good tutorials on the web but To give you an example for the above mentioned bird shot, the bird itself was a black bird, but I increased luminance of greens in LR5 Black and white conversion tab, to make the bird more prominent in the photo by having more contrast with background.
Thanks, Mtux. I'm going to look into my Photoshop 7 for options on converting to black and white. I want to become more adept about doing that. I had ben trying things like desaturating in photostop. But I will look further. Freddy

Mtux, here's my initial foray into B&W photos. The lamp photo taken in color with DA55-300 in living room (desaturated and added a little contrast)
The statue photo taken in color with DA16-45 (desaturated and added a little contrast)
I used Photoshop 7 to commit this dirty deed! Freddy P.S. I sharpened both shots slightly to give them more punch.

Nice shots, DC pro. The little yellow plane is a trip and a half! Very, very cool. Is that little prop under the struts something you wind up to start the plane engine? Very interesting. Even the wheel chocks are cool. Freddy

Well done Freddy! I think using a layer on that statue and bringing up exposure to have more detail in shadow areas could help on it.

Rondec. these are great shots. I love how the Peacock supplies his own bokeh. Freddy

Awesome result! Did you zoom out as the train came towards you?

EDIT: Doesn´t make much sense . Did you ran backwards as the train came towards oyu?

Actually it's a simple panning shot, but I think the effect was caused by the train moving rather fast towards me I shoot a burst of shots as the train pulled in, only this one turned out the way I wanted.

Cheers, where was quite a bit of excitement when the train pulled in, all the kids loved it.
