DA 18-135 and K-5 at Burning Man 2011.

@135mm

This is the third iteration of this photo, and by far the best.
Cropped a little bit off the right and top edges to simplify the composition.

twitch - awesome. love the composition, multiple borders, b&w conversion... there's a lot of interest in that shot too - great job!

Here's a re-work of a picture I took about 6 months or so ago. More experimenting with Silver Efex.

Kx + DA L 55-300 @ 150mm

Here's another with the DA L 55-300. Really enjoy this lens when there's decent day light.

This is taken from a ferry in the Puget Sound (outside Seattle). We rounded a couple islands and this view opened up - always a pleasure to see this mountain on a clear day.

Nice one! But the 55-300 doesn't need daylight to perform - at least not combined with a K-5

wow great shots everyone! My DA 55-300mm is probably my least used lens, but it is certainly one of my most useful for when I need it.

My wife and I spent last weekend, in the Rio Grande Valley, birding in the southern tip of Texas, with my Pentax K-x. The lens I used for these photos was the Pentax 55-300mm, and a monopod. I also brought along the Sigma 150-500mm, but nothing beats the portability and ease of handling of the Pentax 55-300mm kit lens, and the image quality is very good. Usually, the Rio Grande valley is very mild in the winter. The best photos were taken on Sunday morning at the South Padre Island Nature center on the one mostly clear morning we had.

This set of photos were taken at the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center. Some of these photos are heavily cropped, and then resized to 1200x800, and others were not cropped, most of these photos are taken at 300mm, stopped down to F/8.

Reddish Egret

Tri-color heron

Least Grebe, heavily cropped

Sandpipers?,

Western Sandpiper

Western Kingbird, heavily cropped

Snowy Egret

Great Blue Heron

Great Egret

Common Moorhen

Solitary Sandpiper, heavily cropped

White Ibis's, heavily cropped

This next set of photos were taken at the Harlingen Arroyo Colorado Nature center. The weather was cool and rainy, so the photos aren't nearly as good as the photos from the South Padre Island Nature Center, but they're still pretty good.

Harriss Hawk

Golden-fronted Woodpecker, heavily cropped

Chachalaca

Finally, this set of photos were taken at the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge; these photos were also taken in the rain, from protected blinds.

Altamira Orioles,

Green or Mexican Jays

Red-winged Blackbird

Long-billed Thrasher
