Nice shots... I am tempted by this lens also as I don't have anything longer than 35mm except for the kit 50-200. Do you think the new WR is worth the money or shall I go with the old one?

If you need the WR, go for it. If not, the much less expensive DA L version is optically identical.

Rondec, these are amazing shots with the DA55-300. I like the middle one and the giraffe the best. I myself have been delighted with almost any shot I took with it. It is a very special Lens. I agree whole heartedly with Paul h. If you can't afford the WR model, then by all means buy the cheaper DA L plastic 55-300. I did and I love it to death. It's a beauty of a lens and a bargain at about $329. new. Freddy Correction. I just saw it listed now on Amazon for about $270. new

I think any of the versions of the 55-300 are fine. I don't really care about the weather sealing that much with this lens, but I guess if you shoot telephoto in the rain then it could be worth it. Need to stop it down to f8 on the long end to get a lot of sharpness.

Super shot, Hatti. I remember when I bought my DA 16-45 used from a fellow forum member. I didn't know a lot about it at the time, but having used it a lot I finally realized I had latched onto a really special lens of great optical quality. A really effective wide angle. Freddy

Mtux...outstanding!! The floral shot is just plain delicious, even including great detail on the small bee. You couldn;'t do any better with any other camera/lens combo. The Kingfisher was a really nice composition. Love the detail in the building shot.. Thanks for the treat! Freddy

Thanks Freddy,
Yes, I didn't spot the bee before my shot, just after reviewing the shot at the back of my camera I saw it.

I bought this lens for a friend, and gonna pass it to him. I found it to be noticeably sharper than my SMC 55-300 at 300mm end. However I was and am already happy about my SMC lens sharpness, but it was interesting to find this HD version even sharper.

One Day Old Zebra and Mother

Arizona Dave. Wonderful shots. The baby zebra just brought tears to my eyes. Amazing detail from your DA55-300 zoom.
I went out on my terrace yesterday, because I wanted to see how good it resolves at 5 feet. I was very pleased. The light on my terrace is a little difficult so I didn't show my closeup florals, here. I DID shoot the attached wakway lamp, with a couple of magenta colored floral bushes behind it about 10 feet.
I spot foccused on the lamlp post at 60 feet. AV mode, at ISO 1600. I shot it at 260mm. lens speed 1/4000 second. The camera chose F32. I must say that it is obvious that really good resolution can be had at 260mm. Comments welcome.
I decided to take only this lens on my traditional August outing at Brooklyn Botanical gardens this Thursday (weather permitting). I plan to shoot all florals at about 5 or 6 feet. I should get very good resolution, I'm thinking. I'm dying to expand the horizozns of this really fine
lens so I can feel comfortable using it as all-around lens. PPS I used the lens on my K30 Freddy

Here's a X-post, just to illustrate how nice the DA55-300 can be even in extreme night situations (with PP). 1.3 sec. @ f5, 77mm
