Is it the lens or the camera?

My first ever contribution with JCPenney 135 f2.8 MC + Nikon D60

These are great shots, I cannot believe they came from a JCPenny lens. Could it be the camera? Man, now I have to buy that lens too.!!!!

I just picked up a Pentacon 135mm f2.8 for $50.. maybe a touch more than I was wanting to spend on it, but after shooting a few test shots I was ok with it!
Here is one of the test shots, I'll be out and about playing with it for the next while and I'll post more later! I'd love a SMC 135/2.5.. but after following a handful on fleabay.. out of my toy budget for now..

Chex, I have two K135/2.5 and want could live with just one. If you are interested in a trade or a good price, PM me (I need to buy a JCPenny!!)

I really like that last one, kh! You might want to crop it to a different format to eliminate the wasted space (and the CA) at the top.

Excellent use of the Takumar (Bayonet) 135/2.5. I always had a word in favor of this lens so dismissed by many. Nice shots.

the lens pentaxians love to hate.

truth be known, and I have said this before, just because it is perhaps the worst 135 pentax made, does not make it a bad lens, compared to the rest of the world. just compared to the rest of pentax (coming from a K135/2.5, M135/3.5 and SMC Tak 135/3.5 owner)

Pepe

I think you may need to ask another member, first, I think there are 2 versions, and second, I don't own it. In fact, when I started out, my first and only 135 was the K135/2.5 which is arguably the best 135 in terms of not just sharpness but also speed, etc even wide open. So let's say I began with the "gold standard"

When I put together my M42 kit, I avoided where ever possible getting SMC Taks, because I wanted lenses that would give a different look than my K mount lenses. What I did not mention, but which I also own, is a tele lentar 135 F2.8 preset with 14 aperture blades. It is every bit as good as the SMC Tak 135/3.5 which is also a very nice lens, but the difference in optical design between the preset and the SMC tak is sufficient that the Tele Lentar Preset seems to give a more 3D image. By this I mean that the out of focus area at any aperture has more real separation than with the Tak. I ran a 3 lens comparison a while back with these two lenses plus a 3rd 135, and posted the results.

I picked up the SMC tak and the M 135 F3.5 lenses much later, and really only because I got them at really good prices. Certainly I don't need them

I got 4 copies of the K135/2.5, will likely part with at least one in upcoming weeks...tough decision about which one to let go...

That is correct, it is hard. I got the JCPenney but am not impressed. However, I also got the Sears Auto and I am really really impressed. So, I will be posting my Sears shots soon. It is absurd how we get attached to those lenses. I actually bought a k135/2.5 at KEH, expensive but in excellent shape, the other a bit cheaper with very good shape, but both are great.
