Metz 58 in wireless mode

I recently bought the Metz Mecablitz 58. When testing it wirelessly with my K20d, it will only fire in a maximum of about three feet from the camera. Is this really the max distance that the wireless function can be used? Can anyone help me troubleshooting this? Thanks.

How are you triggering the flash?

I was wondering about this myself until I noticed where the wireless sensor is on the Metz 58. Looking from the back of the flash, it's that little round protrusion on the left side of the hinge mechanism. Rotate the head as if you were bouncing off the ceiling in portrait mode and you'll see it. Make sure that it's facing the camera when triggering remotely, not being blocked by the flash body itself.

Yeah, it's not in the best spot (IMHO). I am giving up optical triggering for a radio trigger. I think it's worth the price.

Perhaps a wide angle, rear view mirror is a welcome accessory for the Metz flash.
Turning the body is some sort of a solution...

Here is the wireless sensor of Metz 58:

Turning the flash head and revealing the sensor more may help, but it looks like you're triggering Metz 58 with your pop-up flash. That thing is limited (it's a pop-up, right? ). Is there a lot of ambient light where you test? Try testing the range at night. Hope this helps.
