End of Metz 48

Hi,
Yesterday, when I tried to take a picture with the flash it produced a sound similar to when incandescent bulb burns. After that it didn't fire.
I guess it was the end of the flash (I've been using it 15 mos).
It looked like the thyristor module, or whatever it's called - the piece that produces the actual flash, went down.
I wonder if there's some kind of a replacement module or something or, I'm doomed for a new flash?
Thank you very much,

Are you the original owner? It shouldn't die after only 15 months.

Ira,
Yes, I am. Bought it brand new from Amazon. Even got a rebate for it.

I have had mine for 2 years, knock on wood. Any idea how many times you have used yours? Admittedly, I use mine intermittently.

I'd guesstimate it had no more than 3000-4000 firings.
I don't know the MTBF for this flash but I'd think it's at least 10-20 times of the above number.

I would sent the unit to Metz or your local Metz service. All my Metz flash guns have worked for many years without the tiniest problems. 15 months and 4000 flashes are nothing for a Metz.

Ben,
I would but it's out of warranty (1 year). So they can charge me $200-$300 to fix it plus shipping back and forth. I'd rather get a brand new one.
Thanks.

The thing died too quickly to think about warranty here. Definitely contact them for service, and they very well might make it right even out of warranty.

It should last years under even heavy use.

I have 5 flashes for film SLR cameras still working from the 70s.

Did you buy the flash with a credit card? I'm would assume yes as it was bought on Amazon, then does your card have an automatic warranty extension policy?

Thank you
