step up/down filters for Digi-slave LR3200 & Flashpoint VL-48 Macro Ring Flash ?

I just bought myself a Digi-slave LR3200 Ring flash and Flashpoint VL-48 ring flash just to play with for fun.

The VL-48 has nearly all the correct ring adaptors for my 49mm, 58mm, and 67mm lens but missing 72mm one for my Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 macro.

The LR3200 ring flash has a 72mm native thread so fits my Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 macro but not my 49mm, 58mm, and 67mm lens, so thought I'd ask you folks where's best place to get cheap step up/down ring adaptors ? Particularly, places that ship or are local to Australia

And anything to look out for or to avoid certain step up/down adaptors ?

I guess i'd need 49mm, 58mm, and 67mm step up to 72mm adaptors for LR3200 and 72mm to 49mm, 58mm and 67mm step down adaptors right ?

Seems to have a blue tint to images taken, so guess need to use custom WB - closest preset on my K-7 is cloud shade WD setting.

Wouldn't the step down lead to vignetting? You don't want to be making such a huge jump, i.e. from the 72 all the way down to 49.

I'm not aware of any local Australlian stores, and don't know where you'd get the actual rings, though.

FYI, what you are looking for are "step-up" rings to use a 72mm filter thread attachment on a 49mm filter thread lens. You probably won't see vignetting on most macro lenses, but your ring light will be sticking out quite far with all those rings stacked on so hopefully your macros are 100mm or something like that (working distance needs to be pretty long).

Check the fleaBay, as you can usually order a stack of them (77-72-67-58-52-49) and just use the ones you need. Here are some from Jiakong (Hong Kong) on eBay. At prices like these, it's no wonder most photo stores don't stock them!

Oh yeah, that Digi-Slave looks like the nicer unit. Any reason you got both?

thanks Adam - i start of overlooked the vignetting as it does occur at lower focal end on sigma 18-50 with the LR3200 ring flash but still within working range of most of the objects I shoot - product like photography.

thanks panoguy - yeah got both as just wanted to compare them first hand, the VL-48 was a cheap at US$69 just to play with - just not bright enough and takes up the hot shoe area, while the LR3200 doesn't take away hot shoe area as has much brighter LEDs which has a dial to adjust the power output. I can see myself using LR3200 more though.

Actually re-read my first post, for VL-48 i'd only need 72mm to 67mm step down i think right seeing as VL-48 already has a 67mm ring adaptor ? The VL-48 uses a slight in adaptor with the filter thread size of the adaptor to attach to the lens

That looks like a Cokin adapter ring. You might simply try to pick a 72mm adapter off ebay.

I thought you were looking for a 72mm, but I see you were looking at other sizes. Why did you decide to go with step up/down rings instead of a 49mm, 58mm, 62mm, ... Cokin P adapter? Is it just easier to use the step up/down rings?

Thank you
Russell

Flexibility can use them with my other lens of different diameters for other uses as well filters, close up filters etc other than the ring flash. Had some of Fuji S9600/Nikon 5700 adaptors/close up filters in 58mm thread size as well, so these step-up/down manage to fit all my needs
