Flash: Metz 50 AF-1 or Sigma DG- 610 Super

This is a question maybe too early to ask since Metz 50 is not released yet in US (but the rest of the world). I am planning to buy a flash soon, pretty soon....but i can't make up my mind. The Sigma seems like a steal for $220-$250US, but the Metz has better reputation on quality and a USB port for future updates which i feel spending $300 or lower on this would be more substantial (Pentax is not on the list becuz I felt they are kind of outdated and overpriced, correct me if i m wrong............). Wonder if there is anyone out there are lucky enough to try both models to give me some opinion.

Thanks

I've the Metz 48 and the workmanship and power are very nice. Swivels to bounce against wall or ceiling. I think the 48's are less than $250 but haven't checked for awhile. If you can get a clearance or sale price on them, it would be fine. i think the Metz 50 is a replacement for the 48.

Only think the 48 lacked was it could be used as a wireless slave to the camera's onboard flash, but couldn't act as the master flash itself. Also the Metz 58 could not only do PTTL, but it had an auto thyrister mode like they used before TTL, which could be useful. 48 didn't have that auto mode.

Thanks, that would be great if Metx 50 could use as wireless pttl master
I love the Sigma for that reason since it can do it all, but read some review that its being "oversensitive" as a slave in some case . It is just hard to pick one or the other

I just ordered the Metz 50 from B&H and there was no mention of a 6-8 week wait for shipping. It said that it was in stock.

I sold all my pentax gear and made a switch to nikon.
Now I have a SB-900 that is uncomparable to the Metz 50.
However, the Metz-50 performed very well with my previous k-x. TTL worked okay, I was able to get some pretty good pictures. For the money, it is a steal .

I've had a Metz 50 for about a week now on my K-x and despite the fact you sometimes
need to press 2 buttons at the same time to navigate thru certain menus..(not very 'ergonomic'),
I find it's performs pretty well. It allows for High Speed Sync which is an important feature for me.

Build quality/finish is good, it has a nice locking ring/metal hotshoe mount.

My only complaint: the autofocus assist light (SB 'spot beam' function)
is pretty much useless, the light output pathetically weak...
