Thinking about a Sigma EF530DG flash

New to auto flashes... can the power of this flash be set manually? Or must I always rely on whatever my Kx thinks is best? Thanks.

Charles.

Super or ST? I recently picked up the Super and it has manual settings from full power to 1/64 (7 levels in all). Not sure about the ST; I'd recommend checking the flash comparison thread here.

Wasn't this discontinued in favor of the new 610 DG ST and the DG Super?

Yes it was--that's why I picked up mine. The low price on old stock was too much for me to resist!

I looked at that, but there was just a quick blurb and not a detailed description/review of the flash. And I can't find the 610 anywhere, the 530's are relatively inexpensive on eBay.

In manual mode the EF-530DG ST can only be set to high or low, not 7 different steps like the DG Super.

There are some bargains out there right now for the DG ST as it's on its way out for the new model.

if you want long term investment, get the Super version.
Super version can a lot more like: wireless, high speed synch, rear curtain synch, power output control. I rather go for 530 super, cheaper than 610. As 610 intro, one can buy 2 units 530 super for price of one 610.

Okay, sounds good. But, what about the zoom? It doesn't appear that this flash covers the entire 300mm zoom range of my kit lens. Can it just not be used beyond 100mm?

I have the 530DG Super and it's been..... super so far!

It's especially good at filling a scene with the stofen defuser I have. Just need to crank down the exposure in camera to deal with the more defuse light.

Has anyone had any experience with the 530 super on a k-r? I can't get it to work properly with the k-r. It keeps fireing when the shutter is half open in wireless mode!
