K-x wireless with Sigma Ef 530 DG Super?

I can't get the flash to synch with the shutter. The flash fires before the shutter is released. This happens in manuel mode and in wireless mode. I've actually taken a picture of the back of the flashgun and the display is changed into recharge mode.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Well, I did a search for previous threads with Kx and sigma ef 530 super and found nothing.

I'm going to assume that the Kr and Kx share the same PTTL flash and can't be turned off.

With that in mind, does the YONGNUO RF-602 work with this flash and the Kx?

I'm not familiar with the Sigma unit you have but:

Check that the unit is capable of wireless operation (not all of them do and c-net's review doesn't list that as a function, while Sigma appears to have forgotten they ever made them) I'm not having a dig at you and know it sounds obvious but sometimes the most obvious answer is right.

Check that you have the Pentax version of the flash.

Check that both camera and flash are set to wireless flash operation. As above.

Check that the camera and flash are on the same channel.

Check that you have matched the flash to the camera. A simple step but easy to forget.

All the above can be found in the respective manuals.

You are right about the bodies sharing P-TTL. The only Pentax DSLR that had straight TTL was the *istD. It certainly seems like the flash is reacting to the P-TTL pre-flash.

If none of the above guesses are right can you describe exactly what you are doing?

Thanks for the info. Will look into it now that I know that the Kx and Kr share similar flash functions.

I had done a search with sigma and kx and found nothing useful.

I guess you are using the wrong slave mode on the 530...

It should display "C1 SL", not "SL" alone (which is the dumb slave mode).

Sigma EF-530 DG Super

Any luck P12? I've got a new Sigma 530 Super and have plenty of the same questions. (Perhaps the strangest thing I couldn't figure out was using a simple dumb slave - flash triggered yielded a large underexposure with the 530 and built-in K-x flash and a correct exposure with only the K-x built-in flash... but I think that is a topic for another thread.)

Cheers,
Josh

P12 - I had a chance to make myself a quick-guide for navigating the menus of the 530 Super. Let me know if it's helpful.

Also - realized that the optical slave on the flash is triggered by the pre-flash coming from my k-x's built-in flash.

Sorry for the delay in responding to the latest posts. Hopefully I will have time to look into this issue again late today or Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for the replies.

Hi everyone!

Excuse me for posting here, but my question is very close to P12's, it even may help?

I've got K-x + Cactus AF45 flashgun. I noticed, that my flash doesn't affect the exposure in Manual 1/1 power (as there is only manual mode in slave) when triggered by pop-up flash, but everything is ok when in 1/2-1/16... Is it correct behavior?

Thanks for replies

Ok. It works in TTL with the P C1 (channel) and SL. I guess it helps to understand how the thing works.

jdbraun link helped.

Now I just need to figure out how to control exposure. I'm still going to get a wireless trigger so I can use the other flashes I have.

Thanks for the help.
