Lock/unlock the Pentax flash AF-540fgz

Hi,

I have a Pentax AF-540fgz flash. I've noticed that the lock/unlock button doesn't work for the "cobra" mode. It seems that it is only for the -10° angle rotation. Is it normal?

Regards.

Page 55 of the user manual implies that it's normal as there is no similar reference to the use of the lock button for tilting the head up.

Hold the bounce lock release button and tilt the flash head downward when you set the bounce angle at -10°.
And if it's any comfort, mine behaves the same

It's normal. The head of the Pentax 540 has no lock, except for the -10° position.

My Nikon SB-25 and SB-26 have head lock. I don't like it.

But I wish the detent on the Pentax flash head were more positive. I like the head of the Sunpak 383, no lock, with very positive detent settings.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer . I also prefer without the lock button (like K10D-20D vs. K-7/K-5)

In fact, a friend told me that he has a problem with the 540fgz. When he tries to use a Lambency diffuser, because of the weight, the "cobra" part falls. So it is very difficult for him to use it in a cobra mode.

Regards.
