I've never used a Metz 45CT5, but from what I know, it does not support p-TTL.

You can still use it in manual or auto mode, however.

In manual or auto mode, except for the speed sync signal, there is no communication between the flash and the camera body. You can just use the SCA 510 you already have.

Beware of high trigger voltage, however. Measure your unit to make sure it's acceptable. The trigger voltage of my Metz 45CT1s (I have 2 copies) was 180V ("was" because I modified it to bring the voltage down to 7.5V). My Metz 45CT4 has 24V trigger voltage if I use a simple sync cord; with SCA3002 + SCA3702, the voltage is 4.5V.

These are fantastic powerful flashes, which work very well in Auto mode, although the aperture settings are a bit off on my K10D (over-exposes).

SCA cords for TTL don't work, but the Metz C80 with 4P sync cord (as used with the LX for OTF TTL) gives flash ready indication...

A straight Metz sync cord (to hotshoe) is all you need. If you can get hold of Mecamat 45-30, you can also have full manual control (and off camera auto mode).

PS All CT-5s have a safe trigger voltage. Enjoy!

Rob1234,
You have the very rare bounce holder!! You lucky person!! I have 2 CT 5s and a mecamat and two televorsatzs but the bounce holder (for anything considered a reasonable price!!) still eludes me. I do have an official Metz wrist strap on one of my units though and also a like new condition official Metz ready use case for one of my units.

When people tell me that equipment is everything, I load up my K20 with an old 400mm fixed lens, CT-5 with televorsatz and Mecamat and reply to them 'Yep, I agree'. They generally don't say anything more.

I do - but it's actually not very useful! The light is still very harsh even when using it, and it makes an already big flash even more cumbersome...

I also have the diffuser and I use it with my 45CL-4. I've found that if you use it with the secondary fill flash that you can get a horrible double exposure from the slight delay along with rear shadows. Has anyone tried using an inflatable diffuser on the 45 series?
