Sigma 530 super stuck at 17mm. help?

hello everyone! my sigma 530 DG super is stuck at 17mm, even when the reflector-card isnt out (it should only go to 18mm in that case and also it should be adjustable).

does anyone of you have any experience or idea if or how i could fix it myself or will i have to send it in for repair?

thanks in advance!

I have opened several flashes but not the sigma 530 super. It should not be any more difficult than others.

One thing you should be careful is the voltage inside. Highly dangerous, or at least frozen my right arm for 2-3 minuttes. I consider lucky to survive. Discharge and wait a long time period to be sure.

This is really common in auto-zoom flashes. Try giving it a few moderately-light thwaps. Not guaranteed, of course, but sometimes it unsticks whatever was stuck.

Ugh, mine is doing this too and I have a critical shoot tomorrow. I guess I'll just use it in 17mm mode and rely on PP fill light a little more.

Well, I did the shoot at 17mm and it was ok, but not ideal for sure. I've now sent the unit back to New York and I'm hoping it doesn't take too long to get it back!

Mine did same thing. Contact sigma, they will have you ship it in to them for service. (mine was free, and i BELIEVE they send me a mailing label too?)
It will take 3-4 weeks. I ended buying a Metz 50 while the 530super was out, and have not used the 530 since it returned (other than for testing) lol

Thanks. That's too bad it takes so long. I have a trip in a couple of weeks I was hoping to have it back for. Sadly I'm unlikely to be in a position to just pick up a Metz in the mean time, as much as I would like to.

I'm happy to report that I got my flash back in just over a week and the zoom function works again. I emailed Sigma and told them I was hoping to have it back for an event and they put me at the front of the queue. Yay Sigma!

if it is the same as the dg500, you need to have the built in diffuser that flips out and covers the lens in, as if you have it covering the lens it will not zoom out from 17mm. even when mine is folded back into the top slot it sometimes thinks it is down and I need to play with it a bit until what ever switch is in there lets the flash come out of the wide angle mode.

cheers
great news that it is getting fixed

Mine was sent in fixed and back in under 2 weeks for no charge, so I'm happy again.
