*istDS + Pentax flash AF160SA

Hi,

Somebody gave me a Pentax flash, AF160SA. I know it's an old one, but is it safe and how can I use it ?(I know it won't give me great results, but it's better than the built in) .

Thanks,
Mike

I'm not sure about the AF160AS, but according to Photo Strobe Trigger Voltages the AF160 is safe.
However, if you have a voltmeter you can measure it yourself.
Secrets of Powershot Flash Photography explains how it's done

Hope this helps

That seems a tad drastic.

You can download a PDF version of the manual:

And Matt Denton has this to say about the AF160SA.

I have a similar SA series AF flash, the slightly more powerful Pentax AF260SA. Like the AF160SA, it works fine with the K100D/K10D. However this is a no frills standard flash that is auto everything. So long as you use it within the prescribed flash range, it is pretty much dependent on the in-built sensor. Very compact size actually makes this quite a useful flash for those times you don't want to lug a big flash around. I use it off camera as a fill in flash.
