Sigma EM140 DG Macro Flash

Hi there

A friend of mine has just bought a Sigma EM140 DG Macro Flash, she has a Canon camera, but I don't hold that against her!

Anyway, when setting the ratio for the 2 side there is a reading of 5.6:1, 8:1 etc which is a bit confusing. I'm assuming it is the same as 1/1,1/2 etc, but which is more powerful?

Thanks
