flash duration question

I have 3 mono lights rated at a duration of 1/600 to 1/1000th. Obviously I need to turn the power way down to achieve a higher duration but to completely freeze a subject (lets say a volleyball player slamming a ball) I need to be at 1/4000 to 1/6000 duration. I find it hard to believe these mono's won't be enough. Is there a workaround to this?

some monolights do not get a faster duration as you turn them down and actually get slower, alienbees are one example of this. The only way around it really is to either invest in lights designed for faster flash duration or make do without.
