Limp flash

I have 2 af540's, recently I was given a Gary Fong flash diffuser, but I can only use it in the straight ahead position as the flashes will not stay upright with it on. Is there some way to get it to stay up?

Thanks adwb I was hoping for a way to tighten the ratchet, but I guess there isn't one.

My post # 1000.

I can also verify that the head on both the Pentax & Metz flashes won't stay up with any sort of load on them.

Wide velcro strip is a good idea, also some duct tape (laugh if you want) on the back of the head down to the body in an emergency.

I wish the ratchets were stronger or some sort of lock at 90 & 45 (like some tripods with adjustable angle legs have.)

Thanks for the help, I'll get the wife to fashion some kind of sleeve, but it seems you loose the flexibility of the unit.

I hope not! I intended to ask a serious question with a bit of humour, hopefully with some success!

I suppose if it cops a battering from years of constant abuse and shooting, as it gets older and worn out you'd expect it won't be as firm and able to stand up as well as it used to.

As long as it still does the job and performs to the satisfaction of your favourite model thats the main thing, even if you may need some help to hold it up straight.

So what you're saying is that it needs a little blue pill?

huh, i'm sure I don't know what you mean I thought the velcro wrap/sleeve was a good idea.

Using the duct tape is OK but ripping it off when you've finished is the difficult part
