Well, I've got mine now too. Great bit of kit - thoroughly recommend it! Be nice if a case was included though.

Does it shows the focal length even if the flash is in bounce posistion?

If you tilt the head up beyond a certain point, it automatically zooms out to the widest coverage.

I am very interested in this flash. I would love to see some samples from you in P-TTL mode, bounced, and straight flash too. Seems like you are pretty impressed with it eh?

I'd love to see samples too, I'm about to pull the trigger for a new flash.

Here's a couple (excuse the Windows JPEG compression) -

Engine bay of my car, 4pm autumn shaded daylight.

19mm, f4, 1/30s, ISO100, centre weighted average metering. Full auto, flash and body.

Indoors.
16mm, f7.1, 1/30s, ISO400, centre weighted average metering. Full auto, flash and body.

Thanks for the sample shot with this flash, SupremeMoFo.
Was the second shot of the room done with the 48AF1 as the only lighting source?
If it was, then I guess this little flash is strong enough for general purpose.

Thanks again.

Low level of filtered afternoon sunlight - note the blowouts on the left wall? As for the level of light it's giving off, check the shadows on the A-frame in the roof.

I'm just in the process of acquiring a Metz 48 2nd hand, hope it'll be OK. My current camera body's a K20D and I assume the flash will work fine with it. Does anyone know if the flash properties of a K-7 will be similar - can I assume it'd work as well with a K-7?

EDIT: Forgot to ask about the firmware updates. Has Metz actually released any? Can we expect a new fw for K-7 if needed?

It'll work fine with the K20D. The K-7 is an unknown, but....

... I expect that there will be if needed, yes.

And really, I doubt anything has changed.

PS: forgot to mention this, but it's kinda cool: the + button (arbitrary choice, but whatever) lights for 5 seconds after taking a P-TTL-mode shot if the flash thinks the resulting exposure was correct.
Back to the old school, eh?

I've had this flash for a few months, I'm pretty satisfied with it, one thing I don't like - and don't understand why it has to be that way - is the two button pushing to browse the menu.

The other thing, I cannot set manual mode when using it as a slave. Is there a way to do it?

+1 on the stupidity of a 2 button menu system, as for getting it to be a manual salve, it says so in the manual but I never got it to work either, great flash otherwise, much better exposures than the 540 or 360.
