I am very interested in the new flashes however just reading through the press release on dpreview.com it appears as though the af assist light is achieved by using the video light.
Most other flashes that I am aware of uses a red led for the same purpose. The red led af assist is very discrete whereas I a white video light for af assist may be much more distracting.

The red LED was actually infrared IIRC.
And I agree w/ you. Seems like an odd thing to replace it w/ a bright white LED, even if it is better for video. If you're serious about video, you'd use an LED panel anyways since a single white LED won't put out enough light for 60p...

Hmm... Will they actually improve the claimed p-TTL accuracy issue? I said claimed coz i don't seem to have p-TTL inconsistencies with my Metz 52 (not on auto-thyristor mode)
