No pttl/hss with seagull, with Seagull flash must be in M-mode. I have few this opticalslaves, but have found radiotriggers better cos they do work always.

If u have time to adjust flash power, no need for pttl. But if u want to keep flash mounted on camera and u move alot when taking photos pttl (if it really works properly) or even A-mode is needed cos normally no have time to adjust flash power alltime.

Normally my flash(es) are on lightstand(s) with raditriggers positioned so that i do not need to adjust them.

Just as a reply; I don't want to hijack the thread.

Are u saying that ur AF540 is not good cos u prefer metz? If so pls tell little more about its problems and share what u not happy with it pls.
It's not because I prefer Metz (but my first flash was a 45CT1 loooooong ago). I do think that they, in general, offer better value for money.
What I'm saying is that there are issues with the K5 and pTTL; you can search the web. So don't blame the Metz straight away
I experience inconsistent exposure with the combination of K5 and AF540 when bouncing in pTTL. I'm now starting to switch to A-mode but unfortunately loose the AF assist of the flash in that case. Usually not an issue as the K5 has its own one, but the one of the AF540 is more powerful which is sometimes necessary.
I haven't used the AF540 for a while on the K10D and K100D, but seem to remember that I did not have the issues; but I also did not use flash as much.

Anyway on film era I was using metz mz42 with pentax body and there was no problems that time about 20 years ago. Even pttl worked perfecly. So something has gone wrong since that...
There was no pTTL in the film era; there was TTL

OK guys, now I narrowed my selection set to three players:

Yongnuo 560 III
Metz 44 AF-1
Metz 45-CL4

Wich one you'd suggest for starting?
