No, there is no automatic exposure control.

You can "only" remotely control power levels manually. That's my preferred way of working anyhow, so I'm not missing anything.

Other native P-TTL features like HSS and second-curtain sync aren't directly available either, but there are manual workarounds. If you are still interested, check out my V6 review.

I think you have to apply the coupon code PFADORAMA1 at checkout to see the reduced price. Does this not work?

Cactus Store Opens with Discounts

Just read on LightingRumours that Cactus have opened their own store that offers Cactus gear plus other gear that works well with it, such as stands, modifiers, and flash accessories.

If you go to the respective LightingRumours page, you'll find discount codes for up to 5% savings.

Given that a website for the V6II went live very recently, it appears that reviews are soon to follow.

This is all the speculation I can offer at this point.

Cactus RF60 is now a TTL flash (with a V6II)

Just read on Cactus' Facebook page that they released a free firmware upgrade (V2.05) that adds TTL capabilities to the RF60!

However, one will need a V6II with one of the X-TTL firmware versions, so that the RF60 receives those capabilities. As a "single centre pin"-flash the RF60 depends on the V6II to communicate with the camera. That it now can support automatic metering, etc, is pretty awesome, still.

Now all we need is the Pentax version of the X-TTL firmware for the V6II. Luckily, it is the next one to be released! Anyone shooting Sigma, Fuji or Sony can use the RF60 as an off-camera TTL flash already.

Now we didn't expect that! In fact I think it was specifically ruled out for exactly the single centre pin reason.

Presumably the V6II will be able to trigger a pre-flash from the RF60, read the light levels received through the lens passed through the hotshoe contacts, calculate an exposure level, then send a power and trigger message to the flash...... That IS impressive!

This certainly brings forward my plans for extending this for me....I think I will now get a V6II and RF60x to add to my V6 and RF60. Am I right to assume that my V6 will be good to use on a Pentax flash for basic remote manual power control from the V6II as Tx? This would give me a 3 flash manual set-up straight away, and a 2 flash TTL one once the XTTL firmware becomes available ....

Well, the RF60(x) will never provide anything more than standard flash photography up to the sync-speed when mounted on a camera on its own due to the single centre pin hot-shoe interface.

However, when controlled by a V6II anything goes! In addition to HSS, there will be automatic metering and second-curtain sync.

Yes, a V6 (i.e., not V6II) is good for standard remote manual power (and zoom) control, when used in combination with a V6II.

It cannot support HSS, though and I'm rather sure that this is a give away that it won't support for X-TTL either.
The only "advanced" bit you can do with a V6II -> V6 combination is PowerSync.

Do you have two RF60? If so, that sounds right.

It would be 1 AF-540FGZ (with V6 Rx), 1 RF60 (with new firmware), 1 RF60x, V6II Tx on camera (with pending XTTL firmware). That's a 2 flash TTL / 3 flash manual radio set-up. There will be radio HSS with the RF60x. So I'm feeling that I will he well set up for a wide range of off-camera light situations!

RR60x and V6II ordered and arriving in a couple of days!

Yes.

I think it is really nice of Cactus to not limit X-TTL capabilities to the RF60x. The RF60 has been phased out already and they could have just made everyone who wants TTL buy RF60x replacements. Instead one can modernise one's RF60 with a free firmware upgrade and the whole "adding essentially P-TTL capabilities to the V6II"-approach through a free firmware upgrade is pretty remarkable to start with.

Only back side is that RF60 will get the Update significantly later than it will be available for the V6II.

The RF60 upgrade (V2.05) is already available.

There must have been a change of plans because indeed the original announcement for the RF60 update was after all the V6II versions were done.
