Metz mz 54 4 question

I have an older metz mz 54 4 I use in auto on my K10d and K01. Shooting in the aperture priority the fastest shutter speed it will give is 1/60 on my K10d and 1/30 on my k01. If I change to the tv mode I can increase shutter speed but lens opening stays wide open at 1.7 on my 50 mm lens. Am I missing something or is this as fast as I can shoot in the auto mode with this flash?

I assume your 54 MZ-4 has an SCA-3702.

In (camera A + flash Auto) mode, the flash set the camera's shutter speed somewhere between 1/30 and 1/180, depending on the focal length of the lens.

If you want to set a specific camera's shutter speed, use camera M mode (or camera X mode if you want the greatest speed possible - 1/180).

Thank you I should have seen the xsync setting on the k10d. So do I have to shoot manual mode on the k01 because I can't find an xsync setting on it?
