Metz 52, 58 or 64 for analog TTL camera?

Hi guys,

Can you advice me if Metz 52, 58 or 64 would work in TTL or auto mode with my PZ-1p?

I am thinking of getting a cheap old TTL flash on ebay, but as I am also planning to get one of the Metz models for my dSLRs, maybe it is better to save my funds for a flash unit that would work on both systems.

58 AF-2 appears to be the only current Metz model that supports non-preflash TTL.

Correct, the 52 won't work except on manual, and the 64 probably won't. And it's not yet available.

Doesn't the old Pentax AF-540 FGZ do TTL and P-TTL? (At least it has settings to adjust the equiv. focal length for APS-C, 35mm, 645, and 6x7) They are also discontinued, so you can get a good price for them.
Just thinking out loud here... someone correct me if I'm wrong!

You are correct. There are a few flashes out there that would work, but even discounted that one is more expensive than the Metz 58.

Thanks, I was waiting for the Metz 64, but maybe the 58 is a better choice. Time will tell.

Do you know if the 64 is going to replace the 58, or if they will coexist?

I always go for the most power, you can always turn it down a bit... but doesn't work the other way.

It's probable that the 64 will officially replace the 58, but it's also likely that for quite some time both will be available. After all with some retailers it's still possible to find a 50 even though the 52 has been out for a few years.

Keep in mind that the 64 only has this guide number at 200mm. I'm willing to be that it's not really more powerful than the 58 at 105mm.
