Pentax K200d and old flash unit

Hi all,

I have 2 Achiever TZ250 flash units which I have previously used with my Pentax MV (1980 vintage)
It has a trigger voltage of -8.5volts, so I'm wondering if it is safe to use with my K200d??

Or does it require the polarity to be reversed before I can use it on the camera??

any ideas??

thanks
Greg

I just looked up mine here..

Voltages | DPanswers

and one of my flashes apparently has a trigger of 190v.......

I would be interested in knowing if it's ok for a DSLR too....

The reversed polarity shouldn't hurt the camera. It will stop many radio triggers from working, but it shouldn't be harmful with any equipment.

Anything beyond 30v should be considered unsafe for a Pentax DSLR. You can still use the flash on a radio trigger that is built to withstand that kind of trigger voltage but you should not mount it to the camera directly.

thanks Class A,

yes it does not run on a remote radio trigger

so, ok for the K200d but will need to get a positive polarity flash to use my remote

thanks again

this trick didn't work

reversed the polarity, set it up on the remote unit, trigger , flash, pop, all gone

so into the bin, time for a new flash
