AF540 locking lever question

I recently acquired an AF540fgz flash and see that, while the fit on the camera is rather snug, the locking lever does nothing.. it just spins around and around.

Who has heard of this issue before?

And what did you do to resolve it?

It will spin into position if I lift it up but there is nothing it seems to hold it in place. It is quite strange. The locking pin is there and works as long as I push up on the locking lever and turn it so the nub on the top of the wheel can catch the pin and raise it.

I have 3 AF540FGZ flashes and one of them has a locking lever that doesn't clamp down. However, the flash works just fine and has enough tension in the shoe to not create any problem.

My AF 540 has stucked pin. I had permanently lifted it up so it doesn't get stuck on my cameras... It's snug even without the pin in it. It's poorly designed to begin with.
