Since it's a large file, I'm helping Nigel out by hosting it here and sharing it on the homepage. See below for the download, and enjoy!
Edit: version 2 of the guide is now uploaded. It contains many additions and fixes based on community feedback (7/15).
Edit: a supplement to the 2nd edition is now available, with information on the latest flashes (7/17).
I recently sent a question to Nigel about flash recommendations and he suggested I post a copy of our emails here. Hope this is in keeping with the forum rules, e-mail addresses deleted.

> Hello Nigel, Perhaps I could pick your brain a little? I have read some of the "pdf" file that is on the PentaxForum about flash capabilities but I am totally confused, I recently purchased a K-70 and returned to Pentax after 50yrs and find the digital world rather daunting. If I want to buy a flash like the Godox and use it for HSS with the K-70 what would you recommend?

Hello, I'm glad to hear you're back with Pentax and ready to get cracking with some flashing! The technologies certainly are different from the film era, and there can be quite a learning curve, but I have created my "Pentax Flash Guides" specifically to help a wide range of people. So I am confident you will find plenty of practical help in both the main Guide and the Supplement PDFs.
There is a dedicated section in the Supplement that covers the different types of flashes and the capabilities of each type(Eg Optical Wireless, Radio P-TTL etc), with specific product examples for each category that are popular for use with Pentax DSLRs.
Bear in mind that for P-TTL wireless the K70 cannot control a slave flash with it's built in unit, so you would need 2 P-TTL dedicated system types for this functioning. Or you might want to look to "Radio P-TTL" system with a radio trigger on the camera
Recently, in my opinion, the Cactus V6II trigger and Cactus RF60x flashes have become the number one choice for Pentax shooters in this category.
If you are only wanting an on camera flash, then the Pentax AF-540FGZii is my first choice. I hope your flash explorations and learning is enjoyable, and please do post further questions onto the forum, for example into the "Comprehensive Pentax flash Guide" thread at the top of the Flash forum., then everyone can benefit from the discussion.
