AF540FGZ2 with AF500FTZ

I have a K3 and a AF500FTZ flash and I am thinking of getting a AF540FGZ2 flash. My question is can the AF500 be used as a slave along with the AF540 when triggered by the flash on the K3? For example I would have the AF540 as the main flash and the AF500 as a back light all triggered by the on camera flash. I am not an expert with flash because I don't use it very much but this is something that I would like to use in my photography in the near future. Flowers, insects, etc and I would like to know how much it will improve my technique.

As for improving your technique, only practice will do that.

If my memory serves me right the AF500FTZ flashes were not comparable with the first Pentax DSLRs (*istD) TTL systems; therefore, had to be used in the manual mode for both on camera and off camera operations. Unless the TTL system for the K-3 has been changed to accommodate the older flash it will have to be operated in the maunual mode as an off camera remote flash.
