Using Metz 58 AF-2 as off-camera flash

Hey guys,

I'm using my Metz 58 AF-2 as off camera flash on my K3 using on board flash as a controller. If I don't want to use that or if I wanna try it on my K3 II or K1 which doesn't have a flash, what are my wireless options?

Thanks

You should read this recent thread. I ultimately went with the Pentax AF360 GFZ II as the compact on-camera flash. It combines well with my off-camera Metz.

Otherwise, the Cactus or other wireless is well regarded. I preferred to stick with optical P-TTL. The acon R930 also looks interesting.

The best option in the Cactus V6ii. You will need two one on camera and one off camera. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/125-flashes-lighting-studio/327358-pentax...ml#post3734063

Thanks for the info and the link. So do I need Godox XT-16 Wireless as well like you used or just 2 cactus?
Also, why did you choose V6II over V6?

I chose the Cactus V6ii because it works with Pentax cameras and flashes to achieve HSS. If you are using a Metz AF58-2 you will need is a two Cactus V6ii's. They are $95 dollars each. One mount on the camera and one to mount the Metz AF 58-2 on. If you want to use other use other types of Strobes ie Godox AD 360 you will need an addition trigger (Godox XT-16) mounted in the hot shoe of the on camera mounted Cactus V6ii. The Cactus V6ii pass the HSS info to the trigger mounted in it's hot shoe if you set the Camera System to Pentax and the Flash System to Nikon. I have no idea why you have to set the flash system to Nikon but it works. Check this video out.

I have actually been able to obtain HSS with my Elinchrom studio strobes using two Pocket Wizards. One mounted on top of the Cactus V6ii and the other plugged into the sync socket on the Elinchrom strobe. The power has to be adjusted on the strobe it's self. Were as you can control the power out put of the off camera Metz AF58-2 with the on camera Cactus V6ii.

Hope this helps.

Darryl
