Metz 76 MZ-5

Anyone with any prior knowledge of this unit as I'm considering this as a possible pairing with K1s for big event needs?

Do you mean the Metz 76 MZ 5?
I own the 50 MZ 5 - 70 MZ 5 and the 76 MZ 5

They all work great with my Pentax cameras.
The biggest difference between the 70 & 76 is the control unit.
But any of the above should work. I'd recommend a used MZ 70

And the batteries last forever

All interesting units, and ones I wasn't aware of, although I have long considered some of their other larger units. I always preferred the "potato masher" style of flash gun with a flash bar or hand-held, for moving the light source off-centre. There's a similar Sunpak unit, no longer available new, sadly.

Great unit. Don't forget the SCA Adapter comes extra ~60$.
Here in germany the prices for "used" etz flashes are ~1/3 of the original price. Bought mine always used and they never failed or where crappy. They're made to last forever
So maybe you'll check out ebay.

And don't forget they are huge!!! I mean realy huge!!!
I own them but mostly use the smaller Metz flashes, when no need for long lasting batteries and range.

When and where do you want to use them?

Just saw you're from scottland...
The Metz comes in germany ~550€
And ebay has used ones in great condition for ~300 - 380€

I think they may still be using the British pound in Scotland, for now at least ....

Thanks for raising the question in any case ..... It's been interesting to take a look online at that flash, a real beast and makes me think back to films of news events from the 50's and the paparazzi of the time ....(although they might have been using those old exploding type flash bulbs!)

It will surely have great range, for getting light onto someone a long way away. It may be difficult to get it off-axis enough though to get much of a nice angle of light however. But no doubt better than on the hotshoe.
