Bit of added Info as to the power output of the Shanny and recycle times, compared to some others I own..
Thanks very much for posting that. Wow, those recycle times are crazy long. Your batteries must have been almost dead. I just tested my Yongnuo 560 iii and the recycle time at full was about 3 seconds. By specs, I think the Pentax should be about 5 seconds. According to what you've done, comparitively, the Shanny has higher power and faster recycle times, but I would like to see it with charged batteries.

Just purchased for $120 on amazon. Works great. I'm a novice so I will do my best to answer any questions. I took a photo at 1/8000, f8, iso 2500, 1/128th flash power using K3II and worked perfectly.

Mine has arrived also.

Definitely a real one. Good construction, confirmed HSS ability.

If anything too powerful first use

need to learn how to use it now. Just hoping for a HSS trigger to match now and I'll be totally sold.

Made the red gps satellite icon pop up on the k-S1 though?! Will try on the K-30 later on.

(...) Though you need another HSS flash to trigger it.
That's the same with the original Pentax flashes as well. Off camera HSS is available only if you own two of the HSS-capable Pentax flashes (PENTAX AF 540FGZ, PENTAX AF 540FGZ II or PENTAX AF 360FGZ, PENTAX AF 360FGZ II) and use on on the camera as a Master (or Controller) to trigger the second one.

Question, sorry if it's been answered...

Will this unit work with the K-1 and 645Z?

It should work on any Pentax. It supports P-TTL.

Just bought one of these from Amazon as an emergency replacement after my 540FGZ gave up the ghost (worn out wiring harness in the rotating head), planning on replacing it with an OEM unit once I got the chance, and I can confirm that not only does it work fine with the K-1, but I've been so impressed by it that I've decided that I'll be keeping it even if I do get another Pentax. I am quite pleased with the fit and finish of the unit, which surprisingly actually seems more solidly built than the Pentax! I will probably eventually pick up a 540FGZII for WR and the slightly increased functionality, but so far I am more than happy with what I have gotten for the $120 I spent on the Shanny.
Thank you!

Yep, build quality is really good.

Just waiting on the off camera HSS triggers and I'll be really happy.

HSS with the Shanny works on the Cactus V6 II triggers if you're interested in going that route. And it should work just fine with the Acon R930 as well.

The Shanny triggers were likely to be equally as cost effective as the flash itself, which was their main appeal, assuming they ever eventuate...

I've just emailed them again to check on the status of the wireless HSS triggers.

Don't assume they've progressed, but want to reaffirm that there is interest in such a product.

One question:

If it’s necessary (now) to have at least two HSS Pentax brand flashes (as said by Caver) to get off camera HSS, can one have the same using two Shanny SN600FGZ’s, one master and the other slave?

No, it shouldn't be possible, because the Shanny is not compatible with the Pentax Wireless System .... its Slave mode is a basic optical type.
