Full Frame. As opposed to an APS-C sized sensor.

What did you think about the power output of the Shanny? Compared to my ancient Metz 54MZ-3 that's my speedlite reference it seems woefully down on power.

Paulster. I have no experience in the Metz unit. So I cant compare. All I can say is that at GN60 the Shanny, is as powerful as any of my other flashes (Pentax AF540 Sigma or Yongnuo) I posess. In P-TTL I find I am turning down the compensation one stop, most of the time...

More testing...

I had some time for more testing and this is what i found out:

On my K1 the automatic "zoom function" of the head didn't work.
On K5 / II K3 / II no problems.

During testing i had suddenly a strange malfunction you can see here:

I reseted the Shanny to factory default and suddenly the zoom was also working with my K1. But what still does not work is the AF light (goes with K5 / 3)
But it works when the K1 is set to Crop mode?!

I tested the Shanny also with different lenses. The automatic adjustment is never over 80mm (also not with the 50-135 or 80-200)!
Manually there are still 85, 105 135 & 200 possible

What is still interesting with the Tamron 28-75 on K3 / K5 are the adjustments of the head to the focal range as follows:

Tamron 28-75 2.8 (K5 / K3) / Shanny:

28mm / 24mm
35mm / 35mm
50mm / 55mm (sometimes 45mm depending on accuracy)
75mm / 80mm

DA 50-135 2.8 (K5 / K3) / Shanny to K3 / K5:

50mm / 45mm
60mm / 55mm
70-135mm / 80mm

On the K1 it behaves differently

Tamron 28-75 2.8 (K1) / Shanny in FF mode:

28mm / 20mm
35mm / 24mm
50mm / 35mm
60mm / 35mm (sometimes 40mm)
75mm / 55mm

Tamron 28-75 2.8 (K1) / Shanny in Crop mode:

28mm / 24mm
35mm / 35mm
50mm / 45mm
60mm / 55mm
75mm / 80mm

Pro:
Good recyclingtime, no problems
P-TTL works
HSS works
Everywhere rubber pads / nipples
Very good workmanship
Menu is super intuitive
Quick release locking mechanism

Cons:
No working AF light with K1 (Only in FF mode)
Not updateable

Sorry for my bad english

Same thing with the Vivitar 283 P-TTL. The flash is too strong and I'm usually turning it down close to 2 stops.
Nice review btw. Thank you.

I find that the most effective way to use the Shanny (on camera) is with the supplied diffuser and head bounced at 45 degrees. It seems to always give the right amount of light, and perfectly even with no harsh light to be seen.
In a studio setup though, it definitely needs to be turned way down. The up side to this is that outdoors if battling the sun, it should be able to overpower it.
I've been trying to find some info on if it's actually weather sealed since it's pretty much an exact copy of the Canon 600 EX flash (or it's not a copy but actually is the 600 EX flash body with different internals). All the gaskets of the 600 EX seem to be the same on the Shanny including the battery compartment. Until I find something saying that it is weather sealed I'm not going to risk it though.
The Shanny is a fantastic flash especially for the money. Powerful, quick recycle time (with Eneloops) HSS, Stroboscopic, solid build quality and an easy to use interface. I'm definitely going to buy another 1, or 2.
I've tested it with the Cactus V6 II transceiver and it works flawlessly.
