Hi, Stuart. On first read, only one typo jumped out at me. In the mounting bracket paragraph, it should read "lock the unit securely in place" not "lock the unit in securely place". Otherwise, nice job.

I only have one request:
Try to find out the true guide number at 50mm ISO 100 (how it was done in the old times, before marketing idiots took over).
Shoot two comparative white wall images at 1/200, ISO 100, manually set flash at 1/1 using a 50mm lens at F22. Maybe use an ND.
Then manually adjust the Pentax flash to get to similarly looking results, so you see how much difference there is.

Shanny - like most - only publish a worthless GN60 spec at the extremely narrow 200mm FoV. That leaves me guessing the actual 50mm 100 ISO spec would be around GN 36-40.

The 540FGZ has a (metric) GN of 46 at 50mm.

The only other flash with 200mm zoom I know is the Metz mecablitz 64 AF-1 Digital, which is GN 64 only at these 200mm and actually has GN 43 at 50mm.

You're using a lot of full stops instead of commas. The information is good but basic sentence construction is off. I'm guessing English is not your native language?

Great review, thanks for taking the time to write it and share your results with us. If you could test power level and recycle times compared to other flashes, that would be helpful too.

Lol, In England, only since I was born 57 years ago. So time to learn the language yet !!
Thanks for all comments and feedback guys.. I'll try and work out the GN rating and recycle times as you ask. But my first impression was that it was far better on the Shanny... But maybe I didnt have the same charge in the batteries..So i'll take another look at that.

The colour temperature seemed to vary a lot more than the Pentax, from what I could see. Were you shooting everything with fixed white balance and then displaying the images the same, or has there been any white balance correction? At first glance it looks like it's all over the place on the Shanny, but it would be interesting to get your take on it having actually shot with it.

First paragraph:

trial "there" offering

should be "their"

I would also suggest using full sentences. Not this:

"The beauty is that all their products irrespective of the brand name they are intended for." or:

"Helping to keep cost down." or:

"The range of its tilt ability." Or this entire paragraph:

"When you first connect the flash to the camera. And both are switched on. A little camera symbol appears in the bottom left of the screen. To emphasise that the connection is made. A nice touch. The screen has good viewing even at acute angles."

Mancunian is an acknowledged form of English...

Call me old school, but I find stub sentences confusing to read. Nonetheless, with conventional sentence structure, the attached pdf could be a valuable one to start off the Shanny flashgun reviews in the database.

"Mancunian is an acknowledged form of English... " Too right !!

All images taken with no white balance alterations. Though thinking about it. I did use "AWB".Which may have not been the best idea.. I did say I've never written a review before....lol

I have found that AWB with flash tends to give varying results.

Thanks for your review PDF, I'm looking forward to reading through it. The Shanny looks like being at the 'so far so very good' stage !

Hi,
I bought this flash and I'm using it with a k7. It work verywell, exept the automatic zoom. Infact with the 17-70 work only between 20 an 55, and with the f 70-210 only between 55 and 80mm...
Do someone have the same problem?

I did report in my review that there where some annomolies in the zoom reporting. I Just checked Pentax DA 16 - 45 It reported 20 and 45. 35-80 It reported 35 and 80. 50 prime it reported 45. 28 - 75 it reported 28 abd 75. 70-200 it reported 55 and 80.. If this worries you greatly. You could just set the zoom manually....
