Odd. I was searching around for info on the YN585EX and on Amazon someone asked whether it did HSS, and the Yongnuo rep said it DOES do HSS, "of course." https://www.amazon.com/YONGNUO-YN585EX-Wireless-Speedlite-Function/dp/B01MY4...ntaxforums-20& They don't sound so trustworthy, or maybe they just have no idea what HSS is.
I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and think they did not understand the question, or got their products confused (which is still kind of sad). The manual makes no mention of high speed sync, although there is a short section on "high speed continuous shooting", which is not the same thing at all.

Hard to say - YN has both non-HSS (YN-565 EX II) and HSS (YN-568 EX II) ripoffs in the catalog. (I'm puzzled why they bother to maintain both lines with only a $20 difference in price.)

While the 585 looks like it uses the 568 body, the features and price point are more like the 565.

I only had automatic flashes during my film days. I never had a TTL flash. Is the 585 EX worth buying?

Its full pttl, its’ also fully compatible with the Pentax “wireless” (optical) system and the unique thing it does not have is hss.

For the price and my experience in using it, definitively yes.

Best regards,

I'm happy with Yongnou set of flashguns - several YN-560 IVs and YN 560 TX Nikon version works very well and do wake up facilities..

Also, got YN 586EX P-TTL version (for Pentax) and it works perfectly but not yet got the hang of HSS - don't need em' me-think!!

Good luck on your finding...

My Yongnou 560II just bricked on me. It won't fire on my K-5II or my K-3II and I haven't used it that much. When I power up, it gives this weird sound and slight vibration. I still haven't purchased the Yn585Ex and I'm wondering if it would be durable enough and can be a good replacement.

Can anyone tell me how does the YN585EX fair with Metz 44AF? Thanks

Possible the 560II Flash unit is faulty - check for functionality with other flashgun - if it fired with no issues. Get a replacement Yongnou 560 IV or even better.

Got 5 * 560 IV & 560 TX for over a year and happy with those

What camera/s are you using? There are some issues with the 560II on the K-5II/s. There are times that it miss fires. I've experienced it too but not that much. Does the 560IV work well on the k-3II? Is there a version for Pentax or do we choose between Canon and Nikon compatibility? Thanks

Get the Nikon version. I have 4 YN 560 III's, a 560 TX and a pair of 603 N II's for backup and to piggyback my Paul C Buff trigger.

The 560III's are less than $60 at B&H and I don't need the extra cost and complexity of the 560 IV. The beauty of the 560TX is the speed and simplicity of operation.

I mostly use them off camera (yesterday they were snooted rim lights ) but also use them on camera for events, either balanced for fill or flagged and bounced for key. They're throw away cheap but I haven't killed one yet and I use them. Good batteries are a must, Eneloop Pro's work for me. Also, an 8 cell smart charger, like Maha is worth buying.

I use a pair of K3II's and K5IIs.
Thank you Brooke, I'll take your suggestions into consideration.

Mine is a Pentax K1, used Nikon version for 560 TX and then 560 IV's - get all flashes perfectly (& with various setting) no issues at all including wake-up function for all 560 IV as if it goes into sleep mode !!!! Canon version 560 TX won't work unless if you have Nikon version.

Good luck on those.

Cheers

Hi guys. I know this thread is over a year old. I'm using a YN585 ex and I'm currently using cactus flash trifgea. At times the trigger misfires. Is there a Yongnou flash trigger compatible to Pentax?. Thanks.
