Yonguno YN 585EX vs Shanny SN600fgz

Hi I am thinking of buying a backup also 2nd flash to pair with my Pentax 540 FGZ flash. I am thinking of getting either 1 of the above flashes. Pentax too $ for me.
As the Yongnuo is approx $100 Oz & Shanny is $150 Oz . Is the Shanny worth the extra $ ?
Which would you choose? thanks

I don't know the Shanny, but i owned the Yongnuo and compare with my Pentax 540 GZ. In many situations, the 585 EX is better than the Pentax with a very acurate P-TTL. The only défault is the flash don't give HSS.

I am not worried about the HSS part as I have only used it 1 or 2 times in 4 years

I have seen the instruction sheet for the Shanny, and be aware that off-camera it will be acting as a manual mode optical slave, unless you intend trying to control it with something like the Cactua V6 trigger system. The Shanny is not compatible with the Pentax P-TTL wireless system.

I have not seen an equivalent set of instructions for the Yongnyo, so can't say how it compares exactly, although I thought I read that it was compatible for P-TTL wireless .... ?

Yes, it is. (For those that have misplaced their manuals, you have to long-press the mode button for slave mode settings, then use the 4-way to select P-TTL wireless slave mode on.)

Do any of the Yongnuo's with Pentax compatibility do HSS?

Model wants to do one of those 'erupt from water hair toss' shots, I figure it needs a properly fast shutter speed, and that'll mandate flash-fill.
My current flashes do okay for most of the stuff I've done, but it's time to update - my Woctron is nearly as old as my P30n !!

I've got remote triggers that work at higher speeds - thanks to a test on my P30 (not the P30n) - So I know my other option is a Cactus remote with my current flashes.

Nope, not yet. The manual/manual+radio flashes (YN460,YN560,YN660) don't do HSS, and the YN585EX is based on YN's smaller, lower-end flashes without radio or HSS. If they would make a Pentax version of the YN685...

So, Cactus controller it is then, and then maybe update the flashes to match as I move forward.

The Yongnuo's look to be pretty good value, and the Cactus flashes are only slightly dearer.
