Cactus V6ii settings for HSS

I've just purchased a Cactus V6ii, Godox TT600 flash and XT32 trigger. I'm still wating for the trigger to arrive, but tested HSS with Cactus V5 in top if the V6ii with a V5 on the flash. All seemed to work fine.

Something I haven't thought about though, is the flash power effected by what output settings of the Cactus V6ii if it is merely being using for the HSS pass through option ???

I don't believe so .... In your case you won't have any remote control. This is determined by the capabilities' of the trigger system that relays the signal to the flash, in your case here that's the V5 system.

I didn't think so either. Also more referring to when I get the XT32 trigger, I'll have remote control of the flash. I was just testing the HSS function with the V5 as that's all I had to attached to the flash.

Check your firmware on the Cactus V6ii...the last two frimware updates 1.1.007 and 1.1.008 will NOT, repeat WILL NOT pass through they HSS signal to the trigger to the trigger mounted in the hot shoe of the V6ii. The solution is to drop back to firmware 1.1.006. Cactus is aware of the problem and will fix it in the next firmware update. I had updated it after playing around with it, so gone back to 1.1.006. Thanks for the info.

I bought 3 Cactus V6ll and wanted to flash HSS remotely and Power Sync Metz Pentax dedicated flashlights. I do not know what I'm doing wrong - once there is a good flash and HSS and power sync, and in no time at all. And it only flashes when the lamp is P TTL HSS when the PTTL itself or A or M - the flash is not there! Once put on TX set TTL another time no. Software version 1.1.06

Firmware 1.1.009 is expected by the end of this week, which is supposed to address the outstanding Pentax issues.

I know someone had reported difficulty with Cactus V6ii and Metz flashes before. I am not sure of any outstanding issues with them though. I assume that you have checked with Cactus on the compatibilty with the particular Metz flash units you are using?

I have Metz 48 AF-1 and 58 AF1. I do not know why the lamps are triggered once, and after a while they are not and nothing changes. You can flash - by pressing the TX button. Even switching to HSS OFF does not change anything. I thought that upgrade to 1.1.08 something changed - some time everything worked beautifully - but after turning it off and on again to take pictures - I took one photo and the end ... stopped working. I checked the firmware version - and here is 1.1.06, I uploaded a new one - next 06 ... Lamps I chose Pentax and profile - auto. In addition - they stopped communicating at all!to.

I changed my channel - communication came back ... lottery?

I'm not sure I understand you fully, but bear in mind that P-TTL (and presumably HSS with the V6II) only works with modern Pentax lenses. @mcgregni will probably be able to tell you with which older lenses (such as M-lenses) you should not expect any kind of P-TTL functionality.

Regarding your potential reliability problems, I made a suggestion in the other thread where you posted.

M and K type lenses will cause a flash in P-TTL mode to fire at full power, with no control over the output. The same applies to F and FA type lenses with the aperture ring not set to the A position.

It seems a fair assumption that this requirement for the aperture coupling applies to the V6II as well, since it utilises the P-TTL protocols, so it's reasonable to think that it won't work for generating the trigger signal for HSS without the correct lens type .... But it's something that probably needs some testing to he sure.

I think the lens issue here does not matter - I just use the new AF lenses themselves. With them, they give PTTL and HSS without cactus. With cactus unfortunately once they give another time they do not give HSS.

Well, that inconsistency is definitely not normal.

Cactus have released V1.1.009; may make a difference for you, but I doubt it because inconsistency -- in my experience -- is caused by electrical issues and not by the firmware.

Electrical problems? I do not know ? Rather electronic. Both dedicated Metz lamps always work with the K-1 well. Meike cable is OK too. Only cactuses do not. Maybe they just have something wrong with them. Do your V6II always show version 1.1.006? Even after the last update?
