Yongnuo YN585EX AF Assist

YN585EX on a K-1. I can't seem to get the AF assist beam to work. Speedlight FN menu 2 AF set to ON and camera set to AF-S per yongnuo instructions. Don't see any in camera settings for accessory AF lights.

Anyone with this combo have any problems getting the AF assist to work?

It has to be very dark for it to kick on. The camera's low light focusing is pretty good without the af assist.

It's not just that combo. The flash AF assist beam rarely seems to work with any recent third-party flash, be it YN, Metz or any other brand.

That's a bummer.

I can confirm the AF focus assist light failure on the 585EX as well.

It was one of the main things I was excited about with this flash, and it absolutely refuses to function whatsoever.

So far, the YN585EX is naturally a much better fit onto a Pentax body than the made for Canon YN560IVs I have. PTTL seems to work, just as long as you like your photos bright as hell. Not overblown mind you, but just bringing you right to the edge. Shame about the focus assist. I find that my K1 is slow to focus even in the best of conditions.

Came across this doing some reading. From what I understand the AF issue was fixed with the firmware update of the flash.

I just bought a used YN585EX and the first thing I did was download and update the firmware to version 16-18. I can confirm that the YN585EX AF assist works with my K-r.
