MX with Vivitar 2500 problem

My MX only seems to trigger my Vivitar 2500 at 1/1000 shutter speed and not any other.

Not too clued in on flashes so I don't really know what's going on with it.

Any help appreciated,

Unfortunately not too sure about anything in that thread.

I don't feel anywhere near confident enough to open up the camera.

Make sure the hot shoe is clean. If the flash doesn't fire at 1/60 sec. there isn't much you can do that doesn't include disassembly.

The flash sync on the MX is done with mechanical switches actuated by the shutter mechanism. They are user-serviceable in the same sense as the brakes on your automobile. Most camera repair technicians should be able to make the needed adjustments and might be able to do so within the scope of a standard clean/lube/adjust (CLA) at a fairly reasonable cost.
