K-3ii not metering with AF201FG

I recently purchased an AF201FG flash for my K-3ii using DA 18-135 WR lens. Camera is on firmware 1.1. The flash fires, but the metering isn't adjusting for the flash. I've tried all four settings on the flash itself, and tried each flash setting for various camera shooting modes. If I understand how this is supposed to work, the camera should use P-TTL to recognize the flash, and adjust metering for when the flash fires. However, the metering doesn't change for a given shot with flash on or off.

I've googled everything I can find, and read both camera and flash manuals, and can't determine what is wrong. If it's a hardware problem, is there a way to narrow down which component short of swapping parts (no local camera shop with Pentax in my area).

I could return the flash as defective and request replacement, but would like to ensure it's not something else before doing so (e.g. issue with camera contacts).

Is there something I am not doing/misunderstanding? Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

I use this flash on the Q7. Try this...put dial to manual (M) mode on camera, select aperture required then press +/- button on camera to shift arrow to shutter speed, select around 180'th sec, put flash on auto and hopefully this works for you. Good luck.

Unfortunately it's not actually clear the exact problem you are trying to describe. You say the camera is not adjusting metering when the flash fires ..... this is difficult to understand really.

Could you tell us exactly what you were hoping would happen, as opposed to what exactly is happening.Stick with auto mode on the flash (P-TTL), a fixed ISO (e.g. 200) and tell us the settings used for aperture and shutter. Also tell us how bright the image is after .....ideally post an example image also.

You should be able to adjust the flash exposure with + and - settings on the flash dial, as well as from the Flash Modes screen on the camera via the Flash Compensation setting.

Are you shooting in bright or dim light ?

Give an example of camera exposure mode and camera settings (aperture/shutter speed/ISO) for two shots...one with and one without the flash.

Tried my AF201FG on my K-3II and it exposes correctly. I have the flash compensation turned down a stop on the camera (ISO200, P mode) and on the auto P-TTL setting, the aperture and shutter speed changes to the flash setting as soon as the ready light comes on; then I can change aperture or shutter speed (up to 1/180 sec) within the range of the flash and get good exposure automatically. Are you remembering to lock the flash's mounting collar onto the hot shoe?

The flash doesn't change the meterinģ of the scene, Stelman.

It adds light to the scene.

You retain control over the ambient light level as always.
