Cactus V6 Flash Sync Speed Problem

Hello Folks ,

I have a Pentax K-1 setup . I recently got the Cactus V6 and the RF60 Flash combo . I'm using the RF60 as the slave and the V6 as the on camera trigger. The Cactus V6 manual says it can trigger up to 1/1000 sec Flash . I updated it to the latest firmware too . But it only triggers to the local Pentax K-1 flash sync speed of 1/200 sec , If my shutter speed is higher than 1/200 sec , the flash does'nt fire . I dont know where I'm going wrong ! . Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated .

V6 or V6 II?

Wireless HSS support was not available for the original V6 model (Which regrettably is the version I have)

I have the V6 . So the wireless HSS wont work on the V6?. Then how do I get the 1/1000 sec specified by the manual ?. Do I have to mount the V6 on the hotshoe and then mount the RF60 on the V6?. How do I attain speeds above 1/200 sec. Cheers.

I Just got a reply from a Pro photographer . This is his quote

" Hi Emmany. Unfortunately, your Pentax K-1 will not sync any faster than 1/200. The 1/1000 speed is only for Medium Format cameras. The reason the firmware didn't work properly is that you installed a firmware meant for pairing with V6II. You should be fine for pairing your V6 and RF60 now. If you need to shoot faster than 1/200, you'll need V6II instead of V6. Another advantage of the V6II for you is that off camera X-TTL is now possible between V6II and RF60.

So now I know that I need to get the V6 ii ...hmmm . Got to keep looking on here and ebay for used V6 ii .The hunt starts now .lol .

The 1/1000 spec is the fastest sync speed it's compatible with, not the sync speed you will be able to achieve. It won't go beyond than the x-sync speed of your camera or 1/1000, whichever comes first.

Medium format cameras with leaf shutter lenses could potentially take advantage of these higher sync speeds, but focal plane shutters will be in the range 1/125 to 1/250 generally, as you've already discovered. To go beyond that you need high-speed sync capability, which requires the V6 II trigger.

If you get a V6II and upgrade to the latest firmware (for TTL) it will work great with your RF60 flash, perfect exposure every time, however; it will NOT be able to communicate with your older V6 with a flash on it. You’ll have to wait until Cactus releases that firmware upgrade. They don’t have an estimitated release date.
