Flash Suggestions

Looking to get a Flash that will work wireless/radio controled for my K20d, I have a Sigma EF-500ST and it dosen't.
I can get a Pentax 360 for under 150.00 new If that is a good choice.
Are there any others to look for new or used?
I'd like to stay under 200.00

Thanks
Jack

Yeah, the AF360FGZ will be a good choice, especially for the price. Its main drawback is that it doesn't have a swivel head, which isn't really a problem for a wireless slave.

Your other options are the "Super" version of the Sigma flash (which I didn't like) or one of the Metz offerings (which I do like, but which are more expensive). (Or radio trigger system.)

If you're willing to raise the flash budget up $50, you can get the Metz 48, which is what I plan on doing when I get ready to buy a better flash. Adorama has free shipping on theirs.

You can also get a wireless trigger and use it with your existing flash. I have picked up cheap one on Ebay for something like $20.

That's what I'd do. Just get a wireless trigger setup and use the flash you have. Much better and more reliable than the on board wireless system.

You might also look at the Sigma 530 super.

What are you looking to do Jack? If you want optical/IR slaves, you're limited to the pentax flashes (360, 540) or the metz (48, 58). There are some other options (sigma, promaster?), but I'd stay away unless you don't mind tinkering.

If you're going radio, just about any flash will work. There are 3 levels of triggers, ebay, about $30, pocket wizards, about $400 for one camera and one flash, and the mid tier guys (cybersync, flashwave, skyport), about $200 for camera + flash. The usual candidate flash units are Vivitar 285HV, Nikon SB-24,25,26,28 (used). These flashes are about $100.

If I were you, I'd either:

Optical: hock the sigma and buy a pentax 540 for the most flexibility and p-ttl.

Radio cheap: buy ebay triggers to use with your sigma, and fool around to see if I'd wanna get deeper into off camera flash. Ebay triggers are dicey, but it'd cost you $150+ to get into a better radio trigger.

Radio expensive: well, there's a lot of options here. I'd try "Radio cheap" first.

I read somewhere the Sigma EF-500 ST will not work wireless, so I sold it in here and am getting a New 360 for 150.00 includes shipping. Then I'll see what to get for a trigger system thanks

Get an old AF200T or AF280T and put the rest of your money back in your wallet.
