Phottix Odin II trigger will be available for Pentax

Apparently, "developed and tested in conjunction with Pentax engineers at Ricoh Imaging in Japan", the Odin II TTL trigger will be available for Pentax!

Traditionally Phottix Odin triggers supported triggering of Canon and Nikon flashes and there is no information regarding which exact products will be supported by the Pentax version the media kit reveals that cross-platform support will not be available but at the very least Phottix's own products like the Indra500 TTL strobe and the Juno speedlight will be supported.

EDIT: According to the media release kit (available from the comments section of the PentaxRumors article, the Odin II for Pentax will trigger the Phottix Indra500 and the Phottix "Juno" (a speedlight). Actually, the information is inconsistent as only these two products are listed as "triggered by Odin II for Pentax" but the Indra360 plus the "Mitros" (another speedlight) are in the row of products that the Odin II triggers. We'll have to see which products will eventually be supported.

No pricing information is available yet, but the Canikon version price ($135.95 at B&H) should be a useful indicator.

This is good news for Pentax shooters, following Cononmark's recent support for Pentax and the longer standing support by PrioLite, plus Cactus' recent entry to the mobile strobe market.

Exciting times!

Yes, there's some real development taking place now .... Looks like the days of people saying they must jump ship in order to get a "proper serious" radio triggered studio system are gone.

Ah Class A, I didn't realise you'd been headhunted by Phottix. ...

Some additional info:

Developed and tested in conjunction with Pentax engineers at Ricoh Imaging in Japan, the Odin II for Pentax bring the power and control of the award-winning Odin and Indra systems to Pentax users.

“The is another great addition to the Phottix line-up of lighting solutions,” said Steve Peer, Phottix CEO. “It is a privilege to collaborate with a brand as prestigious and celebrated as Pentax. We look forward to offering Phottix lighting solutions to Pentax fans around the world.”

“We are excited that the new Photix Odin II will provide enhanced functionality, such as High-Speed Sync, with our DSLR products. WPPI provides a great venue for the photo community to experience the compatibility between these two great systems,” said Ken Curry, Senior National Sales Manager, Ricoh Imaging.

The Phottix Odin II features 5 groups with individual buttons and a control dial for quickly adjusting flash power levels. An AF Assist light improves focusing when used in low light environments. With 32 channels and a new Digital ID function, the Odin II offers photographers a way to personalize their products and prevent misfires from other nearby triggers.

The Phottix Odin II for Pentax is compatible with the Phottix ecosystem of flash triggers. Using specially designed firmware the Phottix Odin II for Pentax will control and trigger the Phottix Indra500 TTL Studio Light.

The Phottix Odin II for Pentax will ship to Phottix global partners in early March.

HSS should be supported, wouldn't make any sense if not.

I didn't find anything about HSS on the product page but this is interesting:
Compatible Cameras: K-1, K-5, K-7,645Z
Compatible Phottix Stobes: Indra 500 TTL, Juno Flash
Compatible Phottix Receivers: Odin, Strato II, Atlas II and Ares I (Channels 1-4 Manual only)
Perhaps more camera models do work but it seems they are not making any promises.

Currently the number of lights supported is still rather minimal. I'm sure the Indra 500 TTL is a nice strobe, but I'd definitely await the release of the Cactus RQ 250. The latter is less powerful but much more compact.

Thanks for the heads up and info.

Very definitely after a low cost solution for off camera triggering of HSS capable flash (something like the Shanny) to bring this capability to the masses.

This is an area I feel the ‘Pentax tax’ really hurts in presently, so fingers crossed for one of these developments to come off.

Always nice to be reminded that that there are 3 brands now (Priolite, Phottix and Cactus) offering P-TTL supporting radio triggers and matching lighting gear.

Don't forget Cononmark.

I wonder why Metz never came through with their Pentax support. Seems odd to announce it first and then not follow through.
