Are White Lightning monolights still worth having

Someone local has some. I would like to set up a small home studio. Are they worth it?
Thanks.

Not sure how to quantify "worth it," but I have two Paul C. Buff White Lightenings (5000 and 10000 cps) purchased and used ca. 1987 for a studio like shot of my then baby daughter. They weren't used much after that and after almost 30 years I dug them out of a damp storeroom last Fall. Once I sprayed the accumulated mold with tile cleaner, flushed them with a hose, then rinsed thoroughly with RO water, blew them mostly dry with an air gun, and let them sit for a day in a fan breeze, I tested them. They worked fine. So my only input is that those sold in the past were built with rugged, long-lifetime components.

I have four of these lights. Two Ultra 600 and two Ultra 1200. I purchased them used 21 years ago and they are still in use in my studio. At the time I thought it wise to purchase a spare flash tube " just in case ". It's still in the package. So ..... in my experience, I would say it sounds OK.

Depends on the price, doesn't it?

They'll be just as good as they were when they were new. However, there's been quite a bit of development in the monolight scene so you might be getting much more (more mobility, remote power control, better colour stability, etc.) for the same price, depending on how much the seller is asking for the White Lightning monolights.

It is $50 for an Ultra600 with three cheap lights and some stands and such.

The more I evaluate it, the more it seems marginal.

If I get time and talk him down, maybe.
