K1 & Neo II Rotolight

Are any of the K1 users using a Neo II Rotolight ? If so, how is it working for you ? Did you have to purchase a transmitter or X-flash sync cord ? How is the HSS working ?

Thanks

Fred

The K-1 uses the same flash protocols and has the same restrictions as other recent Pentax bodies. A significant restriction related to HSS is that the camera provides NO sync above the x-sync speed unless a P-TTL flash or trigger in HSS mode is detected on the hot shoe. The Neo 2 only supports this feature with wireless trigger. The details of how the Neo 2 works with Pentax for this are in the user manual.

as far as I see it you need the Cactus VI HSS Tricker to shoot HSS with Rotolight. Right?

Moved to Lighting forum, as this is pertinent to owners of other camera models too

Typical downsides of LED-based lights like the Rotolight include insufficient power and uneven spectra.

Even a good CRI value does not guarantee good colour reproduction as the standard CRI figure is based on a not very discriminative test using rather unsaturated patches.

I'd therefore recommend to make sure that you are happy regarding these parameters. Personally, I would not trust the vast majority of YouTube channels presenting such products as they have a tendency to talk up gear like this. They never mention the shortcomings, only implicitly when a new version is available with increased specs. Then, they'll mention that doubling the power output is a much needed improvement, but in the review of the predecessor, a lack of power has never been a discussion point...
