Little Fairy

A rare chance to grab a few portraits today ...... here's one, easily set up with our youngest (and last!) on the table. Lit with on-camera flash only, bounced from the side wall and flagged.

K7, D-FA 28-105mm, AF-540FGZII - F9.5, ISO200, 1/180th, P-TTL with -0.3 compensation

I still find a single flagged on-camera flash an amazing tool .....gets me shots that I'd never catch if I needed to set up off-camera flashes!

Nice one nigel. Can you elaborate a bit about where you place the flag.

Hi Peter. ... That's the set up for vertical oriented shooting ....I tend to tilt the flash head forwards and a little upwards , and set a manual flash zoom of 24mm.

Ha! We’d be lucky to find a tea towel in our place. If could somehow combine doing dishes with photography I might get more shots done .....

Regarding the flash zoom setting, it depends mainly on the size of the flag I think. Not much point setting it too wide as the flag will channel the light outwards anyway. But too narrow a flash beam seems to lose power I find .....the same for general bounce situations as well I’ve found.
